DOMINYKA, is a mind-blowing contemporary R&B singer and songwriter hailing from the UK, and is a firm favourite here at Frowned Upon.

It is not just here that her rich, soulful voice and genre-blending sound are loved but she is constantly earning recognition across the UK music scene, and has been nominated in the NMG Music awards (vote now, link at the bottom).

Her music fuses the emotional depth of R&B with jazzy undertones and modern production, reflecting the influences of powerhouse artists like Jorja Smith, Mahalia, and, of course, the legendary Amy Winehouse.

That Winehouse inspiration is clearly evident in her smoky, silvery vocal tone and jazz-club-like ambience, which truly transports listeners to another (better) time.

The latest song from this incredible talent is titled ‘Bad News‘ and was released exactly a week ago (as of writing) and is yet again another incredible song.

Frowned Upon has been fortunate enough to have done reviews for her other music over recent years and each time they just get better and better. It is hard to imagine anyone being able to listen to this song and not go “wow“.

The song starts out with the words “I am a confident woman” and that sums the whole track and the artist herself up. Every word and syllable exudes incredible levels of confidence and a command of her abilities. It has been said that every piece of yourself that is put out into the world, whether music, writing or art, should show who you are and what you can do. DOMINYKA has that ability with every song.

Bad News is backed by a track that encapsulates this genre perfectly. The controlled but syncopated rhythm of jazz along with the R&B influences calms the soul.

Reviews like this are both a blessing and a curse. This is because, there is nothing to complain about. Her singing is exceptional, the accompanying track fits perfectly, the presentation is spot-on and like the song itself hints at, there’s nothing that could bring this singer down.
