Over the past couple of years there have been numerous scandals that have rocked the professional wrestling world. But even with this the sport has endured and some could say has thrived with new promotions popping up and pre-established ones getting more success across the UK.

All across the UK and across Worcestershire and the West Midlands smaller independent (indie) wrestling promotions have started up. Stourbridge now has, thanks to indie wrestler Ryan Parrot, Bridge Pro Wrestling as of early 2024.

Birmingham has the Kamikaze Pro Dojo which continues to grow in popularity. Evesham has EVM Wrestling, Cheltenham has the Underground Wrestling Revolution and the social media star Succubus has recently launched her own promotion called Nebula.

Although being more prominent over in the States bigger more international promotions have started to cross the pond once more. 2023 saw TNA Wrestling return to our shores with their UK Invasion Tour. More recently TNA star and the ‘Local Hero’ Joe Hendry has reached the top 5 in the UK Downloads Charts with his theme song, “I believe in Joe Hendry”.

Professional wrestling has caused controversy ever since the the Gold Dust Trio, Ed Lewis, Billy Sandow and Joseph Mondt decided to take the sometimes 8 hour long amateur wrestling matches and turn them into shorter affairs with pre-determined finishes and explosive finishing moves.

The UK has produced some incredible stars over the years that have done great things in the squared circle. There have been legends like William Regal, British Bulldog, the many Kendo Nagasakis, Johnny Saint and Giant Haystacks.

Modern stars like Grado, Saraya, Joe Hendry, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Becky Lynch, Blair Davenport, Big Damo and ‘The Bastard’ Pac.

Let us know down below if you are a fan of the recent resurgence of the graps. Cheers.
