Review Time for Erica Jeans’ ‘Dizzy’-ing debut EP
“There is a fine line in music reviews between honest reviews and sounding like an endorsement. Frowned Upon has no problem with fully endorsing Erica Jean. She has long been a favourite of the site and is also absolutely lovely to speak to, reaching out to me knowing how important the nickname ‘Dizzy’ is to both of us.
Do yourself a favour and check out her music you will not be disappointed and that is the first Frowned Upon promise in a while.”

If you aren’t a fan of Erica Jean yet, then you must be new to Frowned Upon. Erica has made huge waves in the industry; she’s performed at venues ranging from Lakefest and The Marrs Bar to the iconic Royal Albert Hall. Her debut EP Dizzy is a perfect expression of her versatility.
This phenomenal album blends elements of folk, humour, and a dash of playful pop. She really is proving that “everything is better in pink” and carries influences from Eva Cassidy, Joni Mitchell, and Lily Allen.
Dizzy
The EP kicks off with Lemonade Fizz, a track that opens with a splash of brass, setting a warm, soulful tone. The lyrics cleverly play off the saying, “When life gives you lemons,” encouraging listeners to rise above challenges. The combination of Erica’s gentle vocals and the autumnal, street-style sound makes the song feel like a cozy walk through a park on a crisp autumn day, complete with orange leaves crunching underfoot.
Hillside Lover follows suit by staying outdoors with the sound of chirping birds and Erica’s clean vocals. The song has a nostalgic, unplugged feel, stripping music back to it’s true raw and authentic form. It’s a charming track that showcases depth as a musician.
With Warning Sign, Erica shifts gears, offering up almost spoken lyrics reminiscent of someone like Kate Nash. The song is a playful yet honest take on dating, offering a peek into Erica’s personality. Stripped back to just her voice and guitar, it’s a candid look at what she’s like, serving as both a confession and a light-hearted warning for anyone interested in her.
2am Memories picks up the pace, capturing the whirlwind of thoughts that often come to us in the middle of the night. The song is fast-paced, reflecting the racing mind against the stillness of the world. A saxophone adds layers to the already intricate arrangement, while a folk-infused guitar introduces Cherry On Top. This track tackles the stereotypes Erica faces and proves she’s more than capable of surpassing them.
Evergreen Time begins with a soft crackle of keys and a steady rhythm before Erica’s delicate voice floats in, capturing the excitement and butterflies of a new relationship. The song’s mellow melody complements the dreamy, timeless feel of the lyrics. As the track progresses, Erica’s vocals rise to new heights, showing off her range and emotion. This track should be her magnum opus, the true showcase of her talent.
As the colder and darker (s**t) months approach, we could all do with a smile and a splash of pink. Erica Jean’s music is the perfect soundtrack to keep listeners upbeat and almost cosy feeling. So download ‘Dizzy’ feel the music and share the love.
