Why Assassins Creed Valhalla is the best in the AC series

What is the true best game in Ubisoft series Assassins Creed? Some say it’s the ease of play and fun of Black Flag, others say it’s the intricacy of the plot in Odyssey, a lot of old school fans say its Assassins Creed II for the character, plot and gameplay. But in actual fact it is the most recent title, of which I have put in over 100 hours of gameplay, that brings all of this together…Valhalla.

Assassins Creed Valhalla came out in 2020, the series has fallen for the same trap as so many series over the years. After the release of so many near perfectly reviewed games, the pressure is on for each release, like a bands 2nd album. After a string of lacklustre games, with confusing plots, boring protagonist’s or just being straight up broken (looking at you Unity) Valhalla finally bought every great aspect of each game together.

To start main character Eivor Wolf-Kissed has the rugged charisma of Edward Kenway and the self-responsibility of Shay Cormac. Ubisoft has struggled over the years to create a character both likeable and strong and stoic.

The first game set the bar for the gameplay and factions, whereas 2/Brotherhood/Revelations showed the full life of Ezio being charismatic and serious. Then theres characters like Connor from 3 and Bayek from Origins, who were both by far too serious and boring. Then theres Jacob Frye from Syndicate, who is supposed to come over as carefree and funny, but in reality just seems like an idiot.

Sites like Gamesradar and CBR.com both have full articles detailing who Assassins Creed 2 is the best game in the franchise. Metacritic has countless reviews for Valhalla having “a boring and repetitive combat system” and “having the brotherhood take a backseat in the story”.

However saying the combat is repetitive is madness, Ubisoft has not made a game with so much variety in it, up until this era of game there would be the same 5 moves and that’s it now there are countless moves for each play-style.

Metacritic reviews and reviews from my friends talk about how you barely interact with the Brotherhood in game. However in 2 you don’t even know the group exists until around 15 hours in, and in Rogue you are on the ‘evil’ Templars side, and in Origins it doesn’t even exist yet.

My view is that Valhalla has the most replay-ability of any game in the series, and includes every good part of each previous title. The only complaint being the tedious present day sections, which haven’t been compelling since 2012, however for once aren’t integral to the game.

This view now has even more evidence to back it up. Assassins Creed Valhalla’s DLC soundtrack is the first videogame to WIN a grammy…any sort of grammy. This game is perfect, and that’s a Frowned Upon promise.

No one can ever say that the series has not had incredible soundtracks. The fact it took this long to win a grammy is mind boggling. Another opinion of mine is that the soundtrack for the base game of Valhalla is beautiful but Stephanie Economou has written a score that is not only beautiful but fits perfectly. With so much action, dialogue and story it could have been easy for the background music to…well fade into the background. This is not the case. Even if the Odin dream sequence sections of this game weren’t your thing, I highly recommend you go and relax to this soundtrack.
